NO. 10 UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN EDGED OUT AT NO. 5 SMU
February 23, 2018
DALLAS, Texas – The No. 10 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team put up a fight today but dropped a 15-3 decision to No. 5 SMU today.
The Skyhawks managed two points in horsemanship and one point in equitation on the flat. The result was much closer than the final score would indicate, as UT Martin also posted two ties and three of its losses were decided by one point or less.
Lindsay Anderson accounted for the Skyhawks’ team point in equitation on the flat, posting a score of 63 points. It was the second point in that event of the season for the junior from Chardon, Ohio.
In horsemanship, the California freshman duo of Bailey Newlin (72.5 points) and Devon Woods (71 points) each recorded head-to-head victories. It was the first career victory for Newlin while it was the second win of the season for Woods.
Bobbie Piddock’s 73 points in horsemanship tied SMU’s Ashley Mauney while Megan Aiosa also earned a tie against SMU’s Livie Pakula with a score of 68.5 in reining.
No. 10 UT Martin will look to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 24 when it squares off against No. 8 South Dakota State.
