UTM Game Notes

The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will look to put a positive final touch-up to the program’s postseason résumé with a matchup at Ohio Valley Conference opponent Southeast Missouri to close out the 2017-18 regular season. Tipoff from the Show Me Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Skyhawks (16-13, 12-5 OVC) enter the regular season finale in hopes of securing a top-four seed in next week’s OVC Basketball Championship for the ninth consecutive year under head coach Kevin McMillan. UT Martin is currently sitting one game out of the No. 2 seed while holding a one-game lead over Morehead State and Jacksonville State for the No. 3 seed.

In the team’s most recent contest, UT Martin snapped its season-long eight-game winning streak with an 88-75 setback at Morehead State on Thursday evening. Freshman standout Chelsey Perry posted a promising performance against the Eagles, notching her second 20-point outing against MSU this season by scoring a career-high 24 points while tallying nine rebounds. Perry was joined in double figures by Kendall Spray (11), Ashton Feldhaus (10) and Myah Taylor (10) in the contest.

Southeast Missouri (14-15, 9-8 OVC) enters the contest playing strong as of late, winning three consecutive matchups while clinching a spot in next week’s OVC Basketball Championship for the third straight season under head coach Rekha Patterson. The Redhawks are led by OVC Freshman of the Year candidate Tesia Thompson with 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. SEMO has a total of three players who average in double figures. In addition to Thompson, Ashton Luttrull (11.1 ppg) and Adrianna Murphy (10.3 ppg) are also top on the team in scoring.

Saturday’s contest marks the 66th meeting in series history between the two programs with UT Martin holding a 35-30 series advantage. This is the final meeting between the two conference foes of the season after splitting the two-game series last year, with both teams picking up victories on their opponent’s home court. Overall, UT Martin has won 15 of the last 16 matchups against Southeast Missouri dating back to 2009-10 campaign.
