SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN REMAINS AT NO. 10 IN LATEST NATIONAL POLL PRESENTED BY FARNAM

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin stayed at No. 10 in today’s National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings presented by Farnam.
Competing in their spring opener last Friday, the Skyhawks put up a fight against No. 7 TCU before falling by a 13-6 margin. UT Martin was able to earn the 3-2 advantage in equitation over fences, thanks to individual victories from Lindsay Anderson (85 points), Abbie Hopkins (83 points) and Monika Zoromski (79 points). Zoromski (70 points in equitation on the flat), Madeline Williams (73 points in reining) and Noel Meadows (72.5 points in reining) also contributed head-to-head wins for the Skyhawks against TCU.
UT Martin has compiled a 2-4 record in 2017-18 with all six competitions coming against ranked opponents. The Skyhawks have also defeated Miami (Ohio) and Ole Miss in exhibition play this season.
UT Martin displays a balanced attack, accruing 24 wins in Hunt Seat and 23 victories in Western this season. The Hunt Seat discipline includes 14 wins in equitation over fences and 10 victories in equitation on the flat while the Skyhawks have piled up 14 wins in reining and nine victories in horsemanship to round out the Western discipline.
Today’s announcement marked the 11th straight appearance for UT Martin in the national top-10 rankings. The Skyhawks originally joined the NCEA poll on Oct. 10 and has been ranked No. 8 twice, No. 9 four times and No. 10 on four different occasions.
Georgia retained its No. 1 spot in the Farnam NCEA rankings and was followed by No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 5 SMU, No. 6 Baylor, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 South Dakota State, No. 9 South Carolina and No. 10 UT Martin.
The Skyhawks continue their busy stretch with a pair of meets this weekend in Dallas, Texas. UT Martin travels to No. 5 SMU on Friday, Feb. 23 before taking on No. 8 South Dakota State on Saturday, Feb. 24.
