NO. 10 UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN TURNS AWAY OLE MISS IN HOME EXHIBITION, 13-6

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team swept the Western discipline today on its way to a 13-6 triumph in exhibition action against Ole Miss at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
Currently ranked No. 10 in the NCEA polls, the Skyhawks earned three of four MOP’s today. Grace Rogers brought home the honor in equitation on the flat while Sammi Felts (horsemanship) and Hannah McDonald (reining) also proved to be the best in their respective events.
UT Martin garnered a 5-2 advantage in equitation over fences, paced by Savannah Metheny’s 78-point effort. Sylvia Justice (77 points), Brooke Pfeiffer (76 points), Rogers (75 points) and Sarah Kent (74 points) were also responsible for head-to-head victories this afternoon.
Felts racked up MOP honors in horsemanship with a 71.5-point performance. Devon Woods and McDonald also each tallied a team point for the Skyhawks with identical scores of 71.5.
The momentum kept rolling through for UT Martin in reining, as McDonald’s 71.5 points led the way. Felts put the finishing touches on her successful day with a 71 for a head-to-head win while Megan Aiosa also picked up a victory with a score of 70.
Rogers became the third Skyhawk to win an MOP honor after her 76-point performance in equitation on the flat. Pfeiffer (56 points) also managed a victory while Laurie Love’s 62-point performance tied Ole Miss’ Colleen Stimola.
No. 10 UT Martin is back at it again over the weekend as it travels to Dallas, Texas for a pair of competitions against nationally ranked opponents. The Skyhawks take on No. 4 SMU on Friday, Feb. 23 before squaring off against No. 9 South Dakota State on Saturday, Feb. 24.
