February 16, 2018
MARTIN, Tenn. – The No. 10 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad won one event and tied another but it wasn’t enough as No. 7 TCU posted a 13-6 win at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion today.
The Skyhawks edged TCU by a 3-2 margin in equitation over fences and tied the visiting Frogs 2-2 in reining. However, TCU claimed a 5-0 victory in horsemanship before wrapping up the day with a 4-1 win in equitation on the flat.
UT Martin (2-4) started off the day on the right foot, as a trio of Skyhawk riders earned head-to-head victories in equitation over fences. Lindsay Anderson established a new season-high in scoring with 85 points on her way to a win while Abbie Hopkins earned a team point for the fifth consecutive competition with 83 points. Monika Zoromski also clinched her fourth win of the season with a 79-point effort.
The Frogs gained some momentum after their horsemanship performance but the Skyhawks recovered with a split in reining. Madeline Williams notched her team-best fifth team point of the season after displaying a 73-point performance. Noel Meadows earned her fourth head-to-head win with a score of 72.5 while Hannah McDonald’s 70.5 points earned her a hard-fought tie.
Zoromski continued her remarkable day with a 70-point effort in equitation on the flat, marking the second victory of the meet for the junior out of Saukville, Wis. However, that was the final individual win for UT Martin as TCU closed out the win with the remaining four points in the event.
The Skyhawks will be back in action this Sunday, Feb. 18 when they play host to Ole Miss in an exhibition. The competition is set to begin at 11 a.m.
