February 9, 2018
MARTIN, Tenn. – A crucial three-game homestand for the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team starts with an Ohio Valley Conference matchup against the Southeast Missouri Redhawks on Saturday, Feb. 10. The men’s game, serving as the back end of a doubleheader, will begin at approximately 6 p.m.
Southeast Missouri is the only OVC school that the Skyhawks have not faced so far in 2017-18. UT Martin boasts a 24-13 all-time record against the Redhawks at home, winning the last three outings in the Elam Center by an average of 13.3 points per game.
The Skyhawks (9-17, 4-9 OVC) are coming off an exhilarating 70-69 road victory at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. In that game, UT Martin trailed by as many as nine points in the first half but stormed back to take a 62-55 lead with 7:18 left to play. However, the Colonels staged a comeback, leading by two points late before Matthew Butler canned a clutch go-ahead three-pointer just before the final buzzer.
Delfincko Bogan’s 19 points paced the Skyhawks at Eastern Kentucky while Mike Fofana dialed up a career-best 15 points off the bench. Butler concluded the game with 11 points and a game-high seven assists as UT Martin connected on 54.7 percent (29-for-53) of its field goal attempts.
Southeast Missouri (11-15, 5-8 OVC) snapped a four-game losing skid on Thursday with a convincing 78-62 win at Morehead State. The Redhawks trailed by double-figures in the first half but shot 57.1 percent (16-of-28) in the final 20 minutes to secure the victory. Freshman Justin Carpenter was responsible for a game-high 20 points (on 8-of-10 shooting) to lead four Redhawks who reached double-figures in the scoring column.
Sophomore swingman Denzel Mahoney, who averaged 20.0 points in two games against the Skyhawks last season, ranks second in the OVC with a 20.8 point-per-game scoring average in league play.
