MARTIN, Tenn. – Just 48 hours after a defensive masterpiece led to the University of Tennessee at Martin’s second straight victory, the Skyhawk men’s basketball team is back in action with an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at in-state foe Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tipoff time from the Eblen Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday at defending OVC Tournament champion Jacksonville State, UT Martin led for over 34 minutes of clock time in a convincing 67-63 triumph. The Skyhawks established a new season-best in defensive field goal percentage, limiting the host Gamecocks to just 31.8 percent (21-of-66) shooting. That marked the lowest field goal percentage for a UT Martin opponent in OVC play since the Skyhawks held Tennessee Tech to 31.1 percent (19-for-61) on Feb. 1, 2017.

Delfincko Bogan led the way for UT Martin with 21 points, four assists and five steals against Jacksonville State. Fatodd Lewis (10 points, team-high nine rebounds) drained the go-ahead three-pointer with 22 seconds left - his second straight game where he has been responsible for the game-winning bucket.

The Skyhawks (8-14, 3-6 OVC) have won three straight matchups against Tennessee Tech, having not lost to the Golden Eagles since Feb. 20, 2014. That includes the aforementioned 75-46 road win last season in Cookeville - which marked the largest OVC road win in school history in terms of scoring margin.

Tennessee Tech (14-8, 6-3 OVC) is coming off a 76-65 home win over Southeast Missouri on Thursday. In that game, Kajon Mack dialed up a game-high 22 points while Curtis Phillips (19 points, 10 rebounds) piled up his second double-double of the season off the bench to help the Golden Eagles overcome a 33-29 halftime deficit.

Phillips is tossing in nearly 17 points per outing in league play in the absence of Aleksa Jugovic. The Preseason All-OVC honoree, who scored 25 points against UT Martin in 2016, has missed the last three games because of injury for Tennessee Tech, who leads the OVC in assists (16.1 per game) and steals (8.0 per game).
