UTM RESUMES ROAD TRIP THROUGH ILLINOIS WITH SATURDAY MATINEE AGAINST OVC RIVAL SIUE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team puts its four-game winning streak against SIUE on the line in an early Saturday, Jan. 20 afternoon tilt against the Cougars at the Vadalabene Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be televised regionally on Fox Sports Midwest.
The Skyhawks lead the all-time series against SIUE by a 10-7 margin, reeling off four consecutive victories against the Cougars. During the four-game winning streak, UT Martin has won by an average of 12.6 points per outing. That includes an 80-73 road victory on Feb. 11, 2017 and a 79-62 away win on Feb. 6, 2016.
On Thursday, the Skyhawks (6-14, 1-6 Ohio Valley Conference) struggled offensively in an 80-60 road setback against Eastern Illinois. UT Martin received a lift from freshman Parrish Hewitt’s team-high 16 points while Matthew Butler (11 points, career-best eight rebounds) and Dominique Williams (10 points) also contributed solid scoring nights. Terrence Parker pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds as well but the Skyhawks connected on just 36.7 percent of their field goal attempts - their second-lowest shooting output of the season.
SIUE (7-11, 3-4 OVC) suffered an 86-74 home setback to Southeast Missouri on Thursday. In that game, the Cougars outrebounded the visiting Redhawks (38-35) but trailed for 35:23 of clock time as Southeast Missouri made seven of its 11 three-pointers in the final 20 minutes. David McFarland was responsible for career-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds for SIUE.
Jalen Henry has established himself as one of the top inside/outside frontcourt threats in the league. He ranks sixth in the league in scoring (16.3 points per game), eighth in rebounding (7.6 per game) and eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.426). The senior forward averaged 16.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last season against the Skyhawks, knocking down 54.5 percent of his shot attempts (12-of-22).
