DONLEY CANARY HONORED FOR HIS 500TH VICTORY AT NFCA VICTORY CLUB LUNCHEON

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – University of Tennessee at Martin softball head coach Donley Canary was recently recognized for his monumental 500th career victory at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Victory Club Luncheon as part of the NFCA 2017 Convention held in Las Vegas last week.
Canary was one of a number of collegiate and high school coaches from throughout the country who were recognized for their lofty achievements in the Gold/Platinum Room of the Bally’s Las Vegas on Thursday, Dec. 7. The Victory Club Luncheon saw over 100 member coaches be honored.
Already the program’s all-time winningest coach, Canary earned his 500th career victory in an 8-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Wednesday, March 1. The victory saw Canary become just the fifth head coach in Ohio Valley Conference history to eclipse the 500-win mark.
Now after 16 seasons, Canary sports a 527-388-2 won-loss-tie record while his teams have advanced to the OVC Softball Championship 13 times. During his tenure the program has gone to new heights, tallying a pair of OVC regular season championships, two OVC Softball Championship titles and three postseason appearances since assuming the program reigns in 2002.
Canary has won two OVC Coach of the Year awards while coaching two OVC Players of the Year, two OVC Pitchers of the Year and 76 All-OVC selections in his 16 seasons. Of the 76 honors, 25 of those having been named to the All-OVC first team, 14 were named All-OVC second team, three were All-OVC honorable mentions along with 23 named to the OVC All-Tournament Team, including two OVC Tournament MVPs. Canary has also had 21 OVC All-Newcomer team members which was newly created for the 2006 season.
The Skyhawks will open their 17th season under Canary on February 9, 2018 in the Louisiana Monroe Classic.
