BRENTWOOD, Tenn. –
The Ohio Valley Conference recognized a pair of University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball standouts today, as Fatodd Lewis was named adidas Player of the Week and Parrish Hewitt earned adidas Freshman of the Week accolades.

Today’s announcement marks the first time since Feb. 9, 2009 that two different Skyhawks pick up an OVC honor on the same week. Lester Hudson (Player) and Reuben Clayton (Newcomer) was the last UT Martin tandem to accomplish that feat.

Lewis is the 18th different Skyhawk to garner OVC Player of the Week status while Hewitt is 12th UT Martin representative (first since 2012) to win OVC Freshman of the Week honors.

The duo of Lewis and Hewitt helped the Skyhawks to a two-game sweep last week, turning away Arkansas State by a 92-78 margin on Tuesday before dispatching UC Clermont 127-92 yesterday. The 127 points on Sunday was the second-highest single-game scoring total in program history, spanning back 901 games to Dec. 17, 1986. It was also the most points produced by an OVC school since Nov. 30, 1994.

A 6-8, 225-pound redshirt junior, Lewis put together a monster week for UT Martin, averaging 28.5 points, 15.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 57.9 percent (22-of-38) from the floor.

Lewis piled up 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with 14 rebounds to help the Skyhawks to their first road win of the season at Arkansas State. Five days later in the big win over UC Clermont, he recorded the 16th triple-double in OVC history with career-highs of 34 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. He became the seventh player in the NCAA Division-I ranks to compile a triple-double this season.

Hailing from Memphis, Tenn., Lewis ranks third in the OVC in offensive rebounding (2.9 per game), fourth in total rebounding (9.1 per game) and eighth in free throw percentage (.818, 27-of-33). He has averaged 14.8 points per outing while leading UT Martin in rebounding in nine consecutive games.

Hewitt went off for a pair of big games this week, averaging 23.0 points on a scorching 78.3 percent shooting effort (18-of-23) from the field. The Memphis, Tenn. native sank 66.7 percent of his attempts (6-of-9) from three-point land while also pitching in 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

On Tuesday at Arkansas State, Hewitt dialed up 17 points, four rebounds and two assists on a perfect shooting night (6-of-6 from the field, 4-for-4 from the free throw line). The 6-3, 175-pound sharpshooter followed that with career-bests of 29 points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks in the big Skyhawk victory.

Hewitt’s effort on Sunday was the first time a UT Martin freshman had scored at least 29 points in a game since Feb. 4, 2012.

The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday, Dec 16 when they travel to Mississippi State. Tipoff from Starkville, Miss. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
