UT MARTIN CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK SQUADS WELCOMES REGIONS BEST TO SIGNING CLASS

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country/track and field head coach Peter Dalton has announced the addition of four athletes to the squad’s 2018 signing class during the pivotal early signing period. The Skyhawks welcome two athletes from outside the state of Tennessee in Breanna Alderton (Owensboro, Ky.) and Austin Knight (Carterville, Ill.) while adding two from the Volunteer State in Breanna Roy (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and Brent Borden (Knoxville, Tenn.).
"The accolades and accomplishments of these top-tier recruits speak for themselves," said Dalton. "This group of talented and smart athletes saw the teams’ recent success, understood the vision for the program and wanted to be a part of the success. We’re excited to welcome these determined athletes to the Skyhawk track and cross country squads.”
Breanna Alderton, Owensboro, Ky. (Owensboro HS)
Alderton joins the Skyhawks after a glittering high school career highlighted by a Kentucky State Championship and a New Balance National Championship berth. A seven-time Illinois region champion and five-time school record holder, Alderton will make an immediate impact within the tight-knit Skyhawk pack. Prep times include a 11:34 for the 3,200 meters, along with a stellar mile personal record of 5:01. Alderton has claimed victory in 6-of-7 meets this fall and holds an impressive 5k personal record of 18:56. Along with her athletic accomplishments Alderton is a Governor's Scholar Program and National Honors Society member.
Austin Knight, Carterville, Ill. (Carterville HS)
Knight brings a wealth of experience and accolades to the team. He was an 11-time all-conference selection while being a six-time All-South athlete and a two-time Sectional Champion in the 1600 meters. Knight boasts personal records of 4:21 for mile on the track and 2:02 in the 800 meters. In addition to his track exploits he possess a cross country three-mile time of 15:23 at the recent Granite City Invitational. Knight, an up-and-coming talent, is one-to-watch. In addition to his athletic exploits, Knight, is a member of the National Honors Society, IHSA Student Advisory Committee and the Future Business Leaders of America.
Breanna Roy, Jonesborough, Tenn. (David Crockett HS)
Roy joins the Skyhawks as one of the highest ranked and revered in-state athletes this season. Recently claiming all-state honors at the 2017 TSSAA State Cross Country Championships, Roy owns a 5k personal record of 18:21. A three-time all-conference, four time all-region and three-time all-state honoree, Roy has the ability, talent and work-ethic to thrive at the Division I level. She was even named the People Bank Player of the Week after setting a school record with her PR time at the Cherokee Classic. On the track Roy has a mile personal record of 5:05 along with multiple all-state track honors in the 1600 meters and 2-mile events. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Roy is a two-time recipient of the Science Award by David Crockett High School.
Brent Borden, Knoxville, Tenn. (Grace Christian Academy)
Borden joins the Skyhawks after a glittering high school career at Grace Christian Academy. A four-time All-Region selection along with multiple state championships qualifications to match. Borden was named all-state twice in cross country, indoor track and again during the outdoor season with impressive prep times include of 9:41 for the 3,200 meters, along with a stellar mile personal record of 4:28. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Borden is member of the National German Society and National Honors Society.
