Brian Haskins came to UT Martin in the spring of 2009 with 10 years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels and is entering his first year on the sidelines with the Skyhawks.
A 2000 graduate of Lambuth University and two-year basketball letter winner, Haskins worked as an assistant for his alma-mater's women's team for two seasons. As an assistant at Lambuth, Haskins was a floor coach and director of recruiting. Additionally he helped prepare scouting reports and game plans while also working with game scheduling and practice agendas. During his time with Lambuth he helped guide it to a pair of NAIA National Tournament Appearances in which the Eagles advanced to the Sweet 16.
As a head coach, Haskins compiled an impressive 160-90 overall record. He took over the Perry County (Tenn.) High School Boy's program in 2001 and guided it through the 2004-05 season. During his time at the helm of Perry County, Haskins' teams averaged 20-plus wins per season. He guided his teams to a district tournament crown in 2001-02 along with a regular season championship in 2002-03 in addition to back-to-back regional tournament championships those same years.
During 2001-02 and 2002-03 Haskins' teams advanced to the sub-state tournament while the 2002-03 squad made it to the Tennessee State Tournament. The 2002-03 Perry Country team also achieved a ranking of No. 1 in Tennessee according to the Associated Press, helping Haskins earn his first district coach of the year accolade.
In 2005 Haskins took over the Westview High School Boy's program in Martin. In each of the four seasons with Haskins leading the way, Westview averaged 19-plus wins per season, finished among the top three in the district and reached the regional tournament each year. In both 2006-07 and 2007-08 Haskins was named the district coach of the year.
At Lambuth as a player from 1997-99, Haskins was a two-time All-Mid South Conference team member, twice named a Third Team All-American NAIA player and led the nation in free throw percentage during the 1989-90 season, shooting over 94 percent at the line. He began his collegiate playing career at Jackson State Community College where he was twice named an all-conference player and was among the top five scorers in the state of Tennessee in his sophomore season.
Haskins is married to his wife Emily and the couple resides in Martin with one child, four-year-old Taylor, and are expecting a second.
