Skyhawk Golf | Gavin Shellnut
COACH CARPENTER ON SHELLNUT: "Gavin was a two-sport athlete at BGA where he was an outstanding basketball player earning several awards during his playing days. Gavin has played golf since junior high and has played on several junior tours for four years with quality finishes. He has competed on the state level of golf during the last two years to gain experience for the collegiate level. He is extremely long off the tee and that makes for a shorter shot into the green. His golf skills improved when all his time was committed to golf - he showed a lot of promise and potential as a freshman last year. Gavin is a very good person and has a great attitude and a strong work ethic. He is a perfect fit for our program."
2013-14: Shellnut competed in 18 rounds as a true freshman, averaging a 76.4 score. His best round was a 72 in the third round of the Wasioto Winds Fall Kickoff Invitational on Sept. 10. His best finish was 17th in the same tournament.
BEFORE UTM: Shellnut prepped at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tenn. Shellnut was a two-time all-state golfer. He finished fifth in the state as a junior and third as a senior. He tied for first place in the regional tournament as a freshman and has been a member of the BGA varsity since he was an eighth grader. As a junior Shellnut helped the Wildcats finish second in the state tournament.
