COACH CARPENTER ON CABALLERO: “Brendon was a highly recruited player out of high school. He had an outstanding junior golf and high school career. He is very smart and approaches the game as a professional. He is coming off a truly remarkable 2014 summer where he won the Tennessee Match Play Championship, the Irvin Cobb Championship in Paducah, Ky., the Ken-Tenn Invitational in Fulton, Ky. and the Music City Invitational in Nashville. He has made the All-OVC team in back-to-back years and also finished second in the 2013 OVC Tournament. He is expected to be one of the leading players this year and one of the top players in the OVC for 2014-15."
2013-14: Caballero became the first UT Martin golfer to earn a spot on the All-OVC team in multiple seasons, chalking up the honor for the second straight season. He ranked fifth in the OVC with a 73.2 scoring average spread out over 31 rounds. He had two top-5 finishes and five top-10 finishes. His low round was a 67 in the second round of the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate on April 14 and his best finish also came at that tournament (first place). He was named adidas OVC Male Golfer of the Week on April 16.
2012-13: Caballero earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors, the first Skyhawk to receive all-conference accolades since 1999. He played in 32 rounds as a sophomore, compiling a 73.28 stroke average. His low round was a 68 and his best finish was second place at the OVC Tournament, where he finished one shot shy of medalist honors.
2011-12: Caballero competed in 29 rounds in his freshman campaign. He had a season average of 73.83 strokes per round and shot a season low 68. He won the Frito Lay/Taco Bell Intercollegiate. Led the team in scoring average.
BEFORE UTM: Caballero finished fifth in the Class AAA state golf tournament his senior year. He shot a 69 in the first round and a 74 in the second round for a two-round total of 143. Among his other major accomplishments his senior season, he finished sixth in the American Junior Golf Association’s Palmetto Junior Classic. In 2009, Caballero finished among the top 20 at the Class AAA state golf tournament at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro. He had a high school stroke average is 35.4 for nine holes and USGA handicap is +1.2.
PERSONAL: Caballero is the son of Donovan and Tammy Caballero. He was born Nov. 6, 1992.
