COACH CARPENTER ON SHELLNUT: “Tyler had an outstanding junior golf career with top finishes in high school and on the junior tour. He is extremely long off the tee and he is a pin-point iron player. He is a very hard practice player and works to improve his game every day. He won the 2012 Skyhawk Classic and finished second at the Wasioto Winds Fall Classic. He made the year-end top-10 of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament and improved his putting average. Expectations are high for the 2013 year."
2012-13: Shellnut played in 27 rounds of golf with an average of 74.33 strokes per round. He fired a low score of 68 and his best finish was a first-place medalist honor at the Skyhawk Fall Classic.
2011-12: Shellnut competed in 29 rounds with an average of 74.72 strokes per round. He shot a season-low 68 and finished with a season-best tie for fourth.
2010-11: Shellnut played competitively in 21 rounds during his freshman season. He carried a stroke average of 74.76 for the season. Shellnut’s lowest round was a 67 at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate where he finished tenth.
AS A PREP: Shellnut was a two-sport athlete at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, playing both basketball and golf. He earned all-state golf honors in 2009 and 2010. He earned all-regional honors on the basketball court in 2010 and he was selected to the all-region all-tournament team. In addition to his stellar prep career at BGA, Shellnut played in many junior golf events.
PERSONAL: Shellnut is the son of Eric and Teresa Shellnut. His brother Gavin is a freshman on the UT Martin golf team. He was born Feb. 16, 1991.
